Vivek Oberoi Joins Ramayana As Vidyutjihva

Vivek Oberoi Joins Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana as Vidyutjihva; No Anil Kapoor or Vikrant Massey

The highly ambitious magnum opus Ramayana from Nitesh Tiwari with Ranbir Kapoor and Yash continues to make headlines for its size, cast, and execution. There has been plenty of speculation about cast additions. According to a recent report, it was confirmed that Vivek Oberoi has officially joined this film in a pivotal role — and contrary to belief, Anil Kapoor and Vikrant Massey are not a part of the cast.

Vivek Oberoi As Vidyutjihva: Demon Prince set to Clash With Yash’s Ravana

According to sources close to this project, Vivek Oberoi, who has had memorable roles in Company, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Krrish 3, has been cast as Vidyutjihva, the demon prince of the daitya clan and husband of Surpanakha (Rakul Preet Singh). This character is set for high-voltage clashes, including a possible battle clash with Yash’s Ravana. This is a major comeback for Oberoi into the big-budget mythological film canvas.

No Anil Kapoor Or Vikrant Massey, Confirms Source

Miscellaneous prior reports have indicated Anil Kapoor was set to play King Janaka and Vikrant Massey had been cast as Prince Meghnad, son of Ravana.

“It’s not true at all that Anil Kapoor or Vikrant Massey are cast for Ramayana. There hasn’t even been a casting call for these roles. These are speculative at best.”
— said a source with knowledge of situation.

The production also boasts an extended cast, with Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan, Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Kunal Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, and some more. The production plan has even structured Ramayana as a two-part epic, which would be shot entirely at the same time.

₹835 Cr for Part One: India’s Most Expensive Film to Date

The producers, Namit Malhotra and Yash, are pulling out all the stops, spending ₹835 Cr (USD $1000 million) for Part One, making Ramayana the most expensive Indian film to date. International visual effects teams and set designers have signed on to help create the world of Ramayana.

The makers are currently negotiating with Warner Bros. Pictures for a global distribution deal which could change the landscape of international understanding of Indian mythology on screen.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

Vivek Oberoi’s role as Vidyutjihva brings firepower to an already star-studded Ramayana, but let’s quickly clarify our sourcing — there’s no Anil Kapoor, nor Vikrant Massey. It becomes necessary to sift through the noise of misinformation. As our production continues, one thing is certain: Ramayana will be a historic film for India.
