As Netflix continues to grow its presence in India, CEO Ted Sarandos has noted he has a personal relationship with Indian creators — and one name that popped up was Shah Rukh Khan. When speaking with media recently, Sarandos added that SRK is the one Indian talent he knows “the most” and enjoys working with the most.
“We Immediately Clicked”: Ted Sarandos on Connecting With SRK
When asked about his relationship with Indian storytellers, Sarandos said:
“It’s hard to have a favourite creator in India — we obviously work with so many. But early on, I met Shah Rukh Khan, and we immediately clicked. He had a lovely dinner for me in India. He’s probably the one I know the most and really enjoy working with.”

The heartfelt comment piqued the attention of SRK fans while reporters and others in the entertainment industry took note. Given that Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment was one of Netflix India’s early partners, creating titles including Bard of Blood and Betaal, this really should come as no surprise.
Netflix and SRK: A Decades-Long Creative Relationship
- Red Chillies Entertainment produced several series and films for Netflix.
- SRK was in promotional videos for Netflix, including the viral My Name is Khan parody video with Sarandos.
- The star’s global popularity was a key factor in how Netflix positioned itself early on in India.
But their ties go beyond business. SRK’s early dinner allegedly set the tone for Netflix’s long-term strategy in India. SRK has often argued for Indian stories to become global stories.
SRK’s Role in Global Collaborations
SRK’s lasting status as India’s global icon is leading him to be at the centre of international collaborations. Eastern and Western connections led by SRK have long been acknowledged by the heads of global tech and entertainment — whether it is Tim Cook of Apple or Sarandos of Netflix.
With The King and Pathaan 2 already in the works, along with the whispers of a Netflix documentary of the superstar’s legacy, Sarandos’ reverence is another example of SRK’s impact at home and abroad.
