The time has come for Joaquin Kavouklis.
The Lakekand (Fla.) High School standout in the class of 2027 has hit the visit trail hard this offseason and now he is on the verge of a verbal commitment between more the than one dozen scholarship offers to his name.
A decision should go public on July 3.
“It’s now at three options,” Kavouklis told Rivals. “Arkansas, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. All of my top three options have very similar characteristics like amazing coaching staffs, great program environment, great developmental system, and lastly they all have strong athletic traditions.
“I have visited all three programs more than once and they all stayed consistent on every visit.”
The rising-junior recruit, who set several records at Tarpon Springs (Fla.) High School in 2024 before making the move to LHS, wants to come off the board in order to shift his focus back to Friday nights.
“There’s no significance for committing July 3,” Kavouklis said. “It’s just so I can focus on my team all of July and prepare us for the season.”
The experienced passer singled out primary reasons for the final three contenders to have remained in the running.
Arkansas: “Coach (Bobby) Petrino and coach (Miles) Fishback offer great long term development knowing who Coach Petrino has produced! Playing in the SEC against the nation’s best has always been a dream of mine.”
Georgia Tech: “Georgia Tech and Coach (Chris) Weinke have an amazing background and great team environment. There are heading in a really good direction!”
Virginia Tech: “Coach (Brian) Crist and Virginia Tech have been very transparent with me throughout this whole process. I think they have a lot to offer.”
Kavouklis has been to each contender’s campus of late, with the Hokies hosting him most recently following this week’s trip to Blacksburg.
