In a notable shakeup that has piqued industry observers’ interests, Ajay Devgn‘s delayed sequel Son Of Sardaar 2 is set to open solo on July 25, 2025, after Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s romantic drama Param Sundari officially withdrew from the date.
Param Sundari Recedes: Why Did Maddock Films Have To Delay This?
The delay of Param Sundari, a cross-cultural romantic drama produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, comes after weeks of speculation. Vijan’s decision, insiders say, left him with two options: saturation of the genre and doubts of box office competition.
Insiders shared that Param Sundari has a very distinct musical identity, and July is already hopping along—having three romantic musicals being released and jeopardising the film’s presence. Filmmakers eventually decided they couldn’t risk the dilution of impact or presence of a soundtrack in the upcoming noisy schedule.
At the same time, to put Param Sundari alongside a commercial sequel like Son of Sardaar 2—that had massive star power and appeal to the entire family—was unnecessary risk taking. According to sources, Maddock Films is currently looking at late August, even though September remains possible, due to Janhvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which is locked for release on September 12.
Devgn Marches On: Son Of Sardaar 2 Only Faces A Hollywood Film
With the competition out of the way, Son of Sardaar 2 only has to contend with Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: The First Steps.
This highly anticipated film is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and sees the return of Ajay Devgn, who reprises his role as the beloved Jaswinder “Jassi” Singh.
The sequel also features Mrunal Thakur, Sanjay Dutt, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, and Kubbra Sait, with music by Himesh Reshammiya and the screenplay by well-known Punjabi author Jagdeep Sidhu.
Filmed in a variety of locations such as Scotland, London, Chandigarh, and rural Punjab, this film has kept the flavour of action, comedy, and emotion as the original film—and is set to deliver even more bang for your buck.
