Other than duplicating the historic feat he pulled off in the Paris Olympics, Carlos Yulo has another big wish, hoping to be fulfilled.

“I hope my brother and I can compete as teammates in (the) 2028 (Los Angeles Olympics),” Yulo said in Filipino, referring to Eldrew, who is hands-down the best junior artistic gymnast in the country. “My wish is for us to qualify in the all-around (event).”

The 16-year-old Eldrew has already earned three men’s junior vault medals in the continental championships, the last one a silver recently in the South Korea Asian meet following a gold in the 2024 edition held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and another silver in the 2023 version held in Singapore.

With no local gymnast his age worthy of matching his prowess, Eldrew is now cocooned in a training camp in Japan under celebrated coach Munehiro Kugimiya, Caloy’s former coach, who molded him into an Olympic champion.

“I wish that he could learn more and be safe there in Japan,’’ said Yulo, who will set up a training camp of his own in Japan two to three weeks prior to the World Championships on Oct. 19 to Oct. 25 in Jakarta.
