TOWER OF TERROR: Scarlett Johansson Fans Shouldn’t Hold Their Breath For Disney Ride Adaptation to Arrive

Tower of Terror Isn’t Happening Anytime Too Soon

Scarlett Johansson‘s Tower of Terror Disney ride film adaptation is still in limbo some four years after its original announcement.

It has been four years since the announcement of a Tower of Terror project being attached to the fine Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson. Sadly, not much progress has been made on getting that theme-park inspired project to the big screen although Johansson seems confident the “nut will be cracked” in regards to how, exactly, to bring that threadbare project to the screen. Initial reports had Johansson producing the film back in 2021 while later reports had her starring in the feature as well. To this date, no film has been made with or without Johansson in front of the camera.

A Disney ride-based film isn’t a sure thing. For every Pirates of the Caribbean success, there’s a Haunted Mansion and without careful preparation, Tower of Terror could become another flop like Haunted Mansion. Besides that, Johansson had a dispute over fair pay back when her superhero movie Black Widow came out in theaters and on streaming back in summer of 2021 which was just around the time of the announcement of a potential Tower of Terror film.

Johansson indirectly admits there isn’t much substance to the Tower of Terror ride as she states (it) “doesn’t have so much to dig into” in terms of it becoming a full length feature film. That being said, people are seemingly hard at work to make this movie happen despite the fact that it doesn’t seem likely to be a huge box-office hit without a stroke of genius idea which has yet to strike the filmmakers and/or financial backers who could be behind the scenes of this complicated project.

In the meantime, Johansson has the new Jurassic Park movie which I’ve recently seen and enjoyed and I will share a review of it on this site on Monday afternoon. Other solid work Johansson has done includes her performances in audience-pleasers like Lost in Translation and the wonderful Cameron Crowe gem, We Bought a Zoo.

Originating from the TV show, “The Twilight Zone,” the Tower of Terror ride is a fun way to kill a few minutes, but isn’t really substantial enough to warrant a feature film without the right hook. In 1997, The Tower of Terror aired on television which was a so-so made for TV movie with Steve Guttenberg. Remember him? Don’t feel bad if you don’t.

Johansson probably hopes they “crack” that nut regarding getting a new project off the ground featuring the “Tower of Terror,” but it could be another four years before we get any word on progress regarding this theme park-inspired film. Other ride inspired movies which have faltered at the box-office include the mediocre Jungle Cruise which starred Dwayne Johnson, the actor formerly known as “The Rock.”
