Gavin gets it, you get screwed.

California Governor Gavin Newsom posted a sharp message on social media about the Republican tax and spending bill that recently passed through Congress. The tweet listed what he sees as the real costs of the new law. His post has gotten millions of views and thousands of responses from people across the country.

The Senate recently passed Trump’s big domestic policy package called ‘The One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ adding to Trump’s controversial economic promises that critics argue benefit the wealthy. This law cuts taxes by trillions of dollars while cutting spending on health care programs, food help, and clean energy. The Congressional Budget Office says the bill will add $3.3 trillion to the country’s debt over ten years.

Newsom called the situation ‘the ultimate betrayal’ in his tweet, echoing concerns about Trump’s relationship with the truth that many politicians have raised. He listed the people he says will lose out because of the new law. The governor pointed to 17 million people losing health care, 18 million kids losing school meals, and 3 million Americans losing food help. He said all of this happened so Trump’s rich supporters could get tax cuts.

Who gets the biggest tax breaks under the new law?

The new tax law gives different amounts of help to different income groups. The lowest-income families who make about $35,000 or less will get an average tax cut of only $150. This is less than 1% of their yearly income after taxes. Middle-income families will see their taxes go down by about $1,800, which is about 2.3% of their after-tax income.

The Congressional Budget Office looked at the numbers and found big cuts to important programs. They say 8.6 million people will no longer have health care coverage each month. About 4 million fewer people will get food stamps each month because of the changes. The bill cuts money from Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP food programs to help pay for the tax cuts.

The timing of Newsom’s tweet is important for politics. He has said he is thinking about running for president in 2028. Many people believe he is getting ready for a campaign even though he chose not to run in 2024. His strong words against Trump’s policies show how he might position himself as a candidate.

The bill strips coverage from 17 million Americans according to reports. It cuts major healthcare programs and food assistance to pay for tax cuts that mostly help people with high incomes. The debate over this law shows the big differences between Republican and Democratic ideas about taxes and government spending. Both sides are already using this issue to build support for future elections.
