MMTCI’s King’s Gold Cup, Prince Cup races: A huge success

MANILA, Philippines — The inaugural run of the three leg imported stakes races, Prince Cup and Kings Gold Cup, was a resounding success Sunday at Metro Manila Turf Club Inc in Malvar, Batangas.

Thousands of betting aficionados inside the racetrack and at hundreds of off-track betting stations witnessed the clash of the best of the best imported racehorses from Kentucky, USA; Europe; Australia; and Singapore.

The two-day event broke all standing sales records of past stakes races in the industry.

Undefeated racehorse Morally (Mo Town-Street rally by Hard Spun) clocked 1 minute :23.6 seconds in 1400 meters beating Calculus, Anytime Anywhere, Tiz the Moon Rumored in a wire-to-wire finish in the Prince Cup stakes race for imported 3yo runners.

Sherbet Fountain (Twirling Candy-Church camp by Forest Camp) ruled the 4yo and above King’s gold cup stakes over imported horses Counterattack, Hey Joe Joe, Manila de Bay, Xtra Extraordinary and Glenamoon.  She led wire to wire with a time of 1 minute and 9.4 seconds over 1200 meters.

Both Sherbet Fountain and Morally were expertly ridden by star jockey Mark Alvarez.

The occasion was highlighted by the presence of special guest, Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo, who awarded the trophies to the winning connections of both stakes’ races.

MMTCI chairman and president Atty. Narciso O. Morales expressed full satisfaction in the successful inaugural run of his original concept of the Prince Cup and King’s Gold Cup.

” I am very much thankful to the principal sponsor Mr. Ramon Ang of San Miguel Corporation for supporting this king of sports which contributes greatly to the coffers of the government by way of income taxes from our company,” he said.

“We expect the second and third leg series to be more exciting and thrilling with the arrival of more than a hundred imported racehorses all champions from different countries,” Morales added. “This will boost the market of our horseracing industry, improve the breeding through known international bloodlines and pedigrees.”

The second leg of the series will be on August 15, and the third and last on September 19.  Like the first leg, a guaranteed prize pool of P11 million, with P5.5 million awarded for each of the Prince Cup and King’s Gold Stakes races, making these among the most lucrative stakes races in the country’s history.  Each imported entry requires a ₱200,000 fee, which will be awarded to the winning horse and owner.
