Jamie Lee Curtis Thinks Now is a Great Time for Freakier Friday

August 8th marks the release date of the sequel to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan‘s Freaky Friday and Curtis thinks it’s a perfect time for the film.

Jamie Lee Curtis believes that her new sequel, Freakier Friday, couldn’t come at a better time for audiences who fondly remember the 2003 Mark Waters-directed original remake, Freaky Friday. Curtis, who recently discussed that she will be coming to the screen to play the lead in a film spin-off of TV’s “Murder, She Wrote,” thinks her new family-friendly sequel is “comfort food” for people who remember and loved the 2003 movie.

This past Tuesday night marked the Hollywood world premiere of Freakier Friday. Curtis spoke out on the importance of feel-good movies such as her new comedic sequel which is certain to tug at the heartstrings as well, if the first film is any indication of what is to come in the second. This new film is a nostalgic throwback to the days of 22 years ago where the first movie featuring Curtis and Lindsay Lohan cleaned up at the box-office and scored critical acclaim. Lohan had to be old enough to have a teenage daughter for the new sequel to be made the way it was and be wholly successful, according to Curtis’ comments featured on the website, The Wrap.

Curtis believes the new sequel will make viewers “feel good, laugh and cry” and because the film is a theatrical release, audiences will get to experience the movie with other people which helps suggest viewers aren’t alone in the world, a message which is so important in our troubling times.

Sophia Hammons, one of the new actresses in Freakier Friday, looks up to the stars in the new movie and believes she was “lucky” to be able to appear in the movie with them. Manny Jacinto, another co-star of the new sequel, will play Lohan’s romantic interest in the upcoming film slated to be released in less than two weeks. Jacinto believes the film belongs to the leading ladies, according to the recent article on The Wrap.

Chad Michael Murray of the 2003 original will be back on board this time out while a star who held her own opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), is part of an incredibly accomplished younger cast as well.

“Comfort food” is what August audiences may be looking for as Curtis so eloquently puts it, and Freakier Friday fits the bill for that order which makes us believe the upcoming comedy sequel film will do rather well at the box-office. It may even score new fans for the already immensely popular 2003 movie plus the book and old movie on which it was based.
