Paramount and Republic’s Dan Cohen steps down before Skydance deal closure | News

Dan Cohen

Dan Cohen, Paramount’s chief content licensing officer and president of its Republic Pictures label, is leaving the studio as it prepares to complete its merger with Skydance.

Paramount did not comment on whether Cohen would be replaced in those roles, but in an internal memo to staff, Cohen wrote that he is “working with our senior leadership to ensure a smooth transition. As we move toward the anticipated close of the Skydance merger, I expect there will be clarity on the future leadership structure.”

Having joined Paramount in 2017 as president of worldwide television licensing, Cohen was well known in the international TV distribution distribution business for licensing Paramount films and series to outlets around the world.

He relaunched Republic, originally founded in 1935, two years ago as an acquisition label distributing films through Paramount’s home entertainment, streaming and TV platforms.

The label has been active in acquiring independent films both for US theatrical distribution and international sales, handling projects including Venice festival entry The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Sundance title Rob Peace and 2023 Toronto festival entry The End We Start From

Recent acquisitions by the label have included Saoirse Ronan comedy thriller Bad Apples, set to get its world premiere at this year’s Toronto festival.
