Infinity Castle Part 1’ Anime Earns A Staggering $120 Million In Japan Ahead Of Global Release

The Demon Slayer franchise continues to prove its status as a cultural phenomenon that goes beyond anime, with its latest cinematic offering roaring at the Japanese Box Office. The first installment of the new film trilogy, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1, also known as Akaza’s Return, is on a record-breaking spree ahead of its global release.

The film has cemented its position as a certified blockbuster, earning nearly USD 120 million in its home market. This massive success has established it as a top contender for the highest-grossing film of 2025 in Japan, captivating both die-hard “otakus” and mainstream audiences alike and demonstrating the franchise’s wide-reaching appeal.

A Record-Shattering Box Office Run

The box office numbers for Akaza’s Return are nothing short of spectacular. According to the official Demon Slayer account, the film has earned a precise USD 119,524,988 (which translates to a staggering 17,639,557,600 Japanese yen) in just 17 days of its release. The film is on track to officially cross the USD 120 million milestone on the fourth Monday of its run.

In an official statement, the film’s producers expressed gratitude to the fans, thanking them for visiting theatres despite the hot weather. The update also confirmed that Akaza’s Return has broken all previous box office records for the franchise, even surpassing the monumental success of the 2020 film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train.

The Demon Slayer Cinematic Legacy

The Demon Slayer movie series has become a cornerstone of the franchise’s global success. The journey began with Mugen Train (2020), a direct sequel to the first season of the anime that became a worldwide sensation. Now, the critically acclaimed Infinity Castle arc from the manga is being adapted into an ambitious cinematic trilogy.

Akaza’s Return is the first part of this trilogy, released in 2025. Fans can look forward to the subsequent installments, which are reportedly planned for release in 2027 and 2029, promising a grand, multi-year cinematic event.

Global Release And What’s Next

With Japan conquered, the film is now gearing up for its international rollout. It was scheduled for release in Taiwan on August 8, though some uncertainty remains. For fans in India, the wait is almost over, with a confirmed theatrical release date of September 12, 2025.

As for the future of the anime series, there is still no clarity on whether the Infinity Castle arc will also receive a TV series adaptation following the film trilogy. The current buzz suggests it will remain a film-only event for now. In the meantime, all four previous seasons of Demon Slayer, including the Hashira Training Arc, are available for streaming in India on JioHotstar.
