Acclaimed director Mahesh Narayanan, known for hits like Take Off and CU Soon, has an incredibly exciting slate of upcoming films. In a recent exclusive chat, the filmmaker shared major updates on three of his biggest projects: the Malayalam mega-thriller Patriot, a period action film with superstar Salman Khan, and a biopic on India’s first F1 driver.
While all three projects are generating immense buzz, Narayanan confirmed that his current and sole focus is on completing his magnum opus, Patriot.
‘Patriot’ Nearing Completion
The highly anticipated, big-budget thriller Patriot is well on its way to completion. Narayanan revealed, “We are currently shooting in Ladakh. About 65-70% of the film’s shoot is done.” He added that the team hopes to resume the next schedule in the second half of September, with the remaining portions set to be filmed in the UK and on sets in Kerala.
The film boasts an all-star cast led by Malayalam cinema’s biggest superstars, Mammootty and Mohanlal, alongside Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Darshana Rajendran. The director also clarified that Mohanlal still has about 20 more days of shooting left, contrary to earlier reports. Touted as the most expensive Malayalam film ever made, Patriot is slated for a grand theatrical release in 2026.
Salman Khan Period Action-Thriller Is On The Cards
Confirming one of the most exciting rumors in B-town, Mahesh Narayanan verified that a collaboration with Salman Khan is in the works. “We have wanted to collaborate on a film and have had multiple discussions,” he stated. The project is reportedly a period action-thriller spanning the 1970s to the 1990s. While he didn’t share more details, he assured fans that “you will get to know when the production house makes the official announcement.”
Narain Karthikeyan Biopic In The Pipeline
The director also touched upon the biopic of India’s first Formula One driver, Narain Karthikeyan. He confirmed that the project, with a working title of NK 370, has been in development for some time and he is attached as the director. However, he noted that he couldn’t reveal the timeline or the lead actor at this stage.
