Down but not entirely out, and Newsome is holding on to hope.
“We still got a chance,” said Newsome following a 94-86 loss at the hands of New Zealand in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday night.
“We just have to learn our lessons from this one and continue to move forward. I mean, there’s still a lot more that we can learn.”
Newsome scored eight points and dished out four assists in the loss.

Gilas will have to win their last game in Group D against Iraq to have a shot at securing a spot in the quarterfinals.
“As far as the locker room, I know everyone has to keep their heads up, keep moving, keep fighting and just know that there’s a lot more that we can continue to work on.”
If Gilas beats the Iraqis, the Nationals will take on Group C’s third seed in a crossover knockout match for a ticket to the quarters.
Gilas takes on Iraq later at 4:00 p.m. (Manila time) at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
