Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Netflix deal may be a turn off for the Royal family.
While Harry and Meghan may be breathing a small sigh of relief over their new Netflix deal this week, it could spell trouble for the couple’s plans for royal reconciliation. The deal could give King Charles and Prince William pause for thought over whether bringing Harry back into the royal fold really is a good idea after all.
The Sussexes previously had a deal with the streaming giant worth $100 million, however, after numerous failed projects Netflix opted not to renew that specific contract. The couple were instead offered a look-first deal meaning they would still work with Netflix but both parties are now more free to work with others.
Why this is bad news for Harry and Meghan’s royal reconciliation
Of course, this could very well cause issues for the Sussexes when it comes to reuniting with the royal family. The reason this might be a problem is that the royals still don’t completely trust Harry just yet. Both sides are working on rebuilding that trust but it’s tenuous at best right now and anything could break it.
Speaking to the Express.co.uk, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has claimed that the royal family has fresh “concerns” over Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal as the Sussexes are known to make use of private conversations as content for their documentaries and interviews. Now that we know the Netflix deal isn’t dead there’s a chance that the couple could once again discuss royal affairs in a Netflix project.
The trouble is that the Sussexes have done it before. Their first Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan saw them offer viewers a glimpse at life behind Palace walls like never before. The betrayal was no doubt a hard pill to swallow for Charles, William and the rest of the family. Since then more instances of Harry and Meghan revealing royal secrets have come in the form of the prince’s memoir Spare.
The royals have no reason to trust them
While peace negotiations seemed to be going rather well last month this recent development has thrown a spanner into the works.
“This will concern the Royal Family as they don’t trust the Sussexes and they did it (a damaging series) before. It is sadly all too clear that, however deplorable it is, it would be very lucrative.”
Currently, there is no evidence that the Sussexes intend to release another docu-series like Harry & Meghan. Fitzwilliams hopes for their sake that it stays that way, “Let’s just hope, as things seem so uncertain for them, that they aren’t planning another such series!”
Recent weeks haven’t seen much new news regarding the peace talks between Harry’s representatives and Charles’ representatives. However, it seems the royals, William especially, are apprehensive about letting Harry back in. As for Meghan, it’s not clear if there will ever be a pathway back for her, but then again, it seems as though she may not be interested in returning anyway.
