Scary Movie 6 to Bring Back Old Stars
Anna Faris and Regina Hall will be returning to a famous comedy spoof series with the latest reboot of the Scary Movie franchise.
Anna Faris and Regina Hall will be coming on board the new Miramax/Paramount reboot of the Scary Movie spoof series with the sixth installment of the popular comedy. Scary Movie first took off in the year 2000 as it spoofed movies like The Sixth Sense, The Blair Witch Project and the Scream series. Though there were several entries in the franchise, the series lost steam a bit after a while and was laid to rest. Former stars Faris and Hall are now joining Marlon Wayans and company to revitalize what was once thought to be a dead series.
Faris was almost always a goofball in the movies and played in popular comedies like The House Bunny and the underappreciated 2011 gem, What’s Your Number?, so her presence in the new project is not all too surprising. Regina Hall, in contrast, has taken on big projects over the years such as co-hosting the Oscars one year and co-starring in the upcoming prestige Paul Thomas Anderson movie, One Battle After Another, which is due this fall. Hall previously played in the immensely popular, Girls Trip, Little and Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul., all of which showed her tremendous range as an actress.
Faris and Hall are known for their comic timing most of all although they have both starred in numerous dramatic films as well as their popular comedies. Hall is always a pleasure to watch and Faris never fails to leave a smile on the viewers’ faces with her previous hysterical roles, especially her one in the TV Show, “Mom,” where she played with the incomparable Allison Janney.
Michael Tiddes will be directing the sixth Scary Movie. While we don’t know what horror movies the film will be spoofing, we can probably assume great horror movies like Sinners or Weapons could be under attack for comic relief. With a planned release date of June 12, 2026, the new Scary Movie could also target upcoming horror films as well so it can be as timely as possible in taking shots at the latest in really scary horror pictures.
With the success of the latest reboot of The Naked Gun series, it has been proven that audiences love to get a good laugh at the expense of more serious projects. The Naked Gun successfully spoofed detective movies and TV shows and humorously paid respect to the old films that preceded it. Expect the Scary Movie series to get a much needed box-office boost as well next year.
