MANILA, Philippines — From La Salle to PLDT, Majoy Baron never stopped learning until all those lessons finally led to her first PVL title.

For newly minted three-time PVL conference Best Middle Blocker, winning PLDT’s first pro championship in the PVL on Tour was a culmination of all of her hard work and sacrifices from the start of her career.

“For me, having Ate Kim (Fajardo), Ate Ye (Mika Reyes), and Kianna (Dy) with me on the court gave me extra confidence. But it also came with extra pressure, I knew the kind of mindset Ate Aby (Maraño) and Ate Ara (Galang) had on the other side. That’s why the game was so fulfilling, it turned out to be such a great battle,” Baron said in Filipino after tallying six blocks en route to a 13-point night in a 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 24-26, 15-8 win over Chery Tiggo on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

On the verge of another heartbreak after blowing a two-set lead, Baron helped save the day, hitting the big blocks and spikes in the fifth set to restore the order and finally bring PLDT to the promised land.

“Every step of the way, I’ve been learning. Even here at PLDT, I’ve added a lot to my skills. I’m really thankful that every conference, I stay open to learning and now, all that effort is paying off,” said Baron.

The key to their success was learning from the past heartbreaks and mistakes that made the PVL crown elusive for the High Speed Hitters until Sunday night.

“I really think this was meant for us because right until the end, we were being challenged. I’m just incredibly proud of my team, our coaches, and the management. Ever since I joined PLDT, it’s been a real process,” she said. “Every conference, we learn something new and keep adding to what we already have. And now, it feels so good that the “formula” finally came together through hard work.”
