Director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana is already making headlines as India’s most expensive project ever. But according to its producer, the film’s success won’t just be measured by its box office numbers in India. In a bold statement, producer Namit Malhotra has said that the film’s real test is whether it connects with audiences in the West.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana, the film is being made with the ambition of putting Indian mythology on the world stage. Malhotra, who is backing the film, believes that the story has a universal appeal that should go beyond cultural and religious boundaries.
‘Meant For The World’: A Bold Vision
In a recent interview with the LA Times, Namit Malhotra made his global ambitions for the film very clear. He stated that Ramayana is being created for a worldwide audience from day one. He even went as far as to say that he would see the film as a personal failure if it doesn’t find success with Western audiences.
“In my mind, if people in the West don’t like it, I consider that a failure. It is meant for the world,” Malhotra said. He compared the scale and vision of Ramayana to massive Hollywood blockbusters like Avatar and Gladiator, showing just how high he has set the bar for this epic saga.
Universal Emotions And Grand Scale
Director Nitesh Tiwari supported the producer’s vision, explaining that emotions are the same everywhere. “If the audience connects emotionally, they will connect with the story, no matter where they’re from,” he said. The film is being designed to appeal to everyone, whether they are familiar with the epic or not.
To achieve this grand vision, the film has been given a massive combined budget of ₹4,000 crore for its two parts. This huge investment is being used to bring together a star-studded cast, top international technicians, and the latest in filmmaking technology to create a truly global cinematic experience.
A Star-Studded Cast And Crew
The cast of Ramayana is one of the most impressive ever assembled. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, the film features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Amitabh Bachchan as Jatayu. The film’s music is also being handled by an iconic duo: Oscar-winners Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. With such incredible talent involved, the film is aiming for a release during the Diwali 2026 weekend.
