MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — Rookie Abby Segui turned 20 away from home, but she had double the reason to celebrate with the Adamson Lady Falcons moving a win away from sweeping the 2025 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals Cebu Leg.
The birthday girl delivered a near-flawless performance, converting 12 of 15 attacks to finish with 13 points in Adamson’s dominant 25-15, 25-10, 25-16 win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation on Saturday at Mandaue Sports Complex.

“I’m really happy right now because I got to celebrate my birthday here in Cebu,” Segui told the Inquirer in Filipino. “Like what our coaches and teammates told us, we should enjoy this because it’s such a great experience. It’s helping us learn how to overcome challenges and build chemistry with one another.”

The rookie spiker made a seamless transition, reuniting with her high school teammates Shaina Nitura, Fei Sagaysay, and others.
“So far, I’ve been able to adjust well with the help of Shaina, Fei, and our core group from high school. We’ve all been supporting each other,” she said.
Nitura, the UAAP Season 87 Rookie of the Year and scoring record holder, has also made things easier for Segui.
“Shaina has been such a big help to me, especially in building my character. She helps take the pressure off my shoulders. I just focus on playing my role and doing whatever I can to help the team,” Segui said.
“In training, she really pushes all of us, even the coaches, to do better in our positions and reach our full potential.”
Segui and the Lady Falcons go for the SSL Cebu Leg title against Ateneo on Sunday at 6 p.m.
