Vivek Agnihotri’s latest film, The Bengal Files, was released in theatres on September 5 amidst significant controversy. Despite the hype generated by his previous successful films, this new socio-political drama has had a very poor run at the box office in its first week.
The film has also been facing stiff competition in theatres. The mass-market action movie Baaghi 4 and the Hollywood horror film The Conjuring Last Rites have dominated the box office, which has clearly impacted the screen count and audience footfalls for The Bengal Files.
The Bengal Files First Week Box Office Breakdown
The film had a slow start on its opening day, collecting just Rs 1.75 crore net. It failed to show any significant growth on its second day, earning Rs 2.15 crore net on Saturday. The Sunday collections were also poor, with the film adding only Rs 2.60 crore net. The collections saw a major drop on Monday, with the film earning only Rs 1.00 crore net. The ‘Files Trilogy’ Hype Didn’t Help
A lot was expected from The Bengal Files, as it is the third film in Vivek Agnihotri’s Files Trilogy. The first two films, The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, were very successful at the box office, with The Kashmir Files becoming a massive blockbuster in 2022. However, the brand value of the trilogy has not translated into box office numbers this time.
