The much-awaited superhero film uniting Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, and star Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj has been put on hold. The collaboration was eagerly anticipated ever since Aamir made a special cameo in Lokesh’s recent Rajinikanth starrer, Coolie.
Aamir himself had confirmed during the promotions for his film Sitaare Zameen Par that his next project would be this superhero movie. However, sources have now confirmed that the project will not be moving forward at this time due to creative differences.
The Real Reason: A Clash of Working Styles
According to an industry insider, the main reason the film has been shelved is a fundamental clash in the creative working styles of the actor and the director. Aamir Khan is known for his meticulous planning and prefers to have the entire screenplay locked and finalized long before the shoot begins.
Lokesh Kanagaraj, on the other hand, has a more fluid process. He prefers to work with a draft of the script and believes in developing and improvising scenes during the shoot itself. This difference in their core approach to filmmaking meant they couldn’t find a common ground for this project.
A Good-Natured Parting Of Ways
While the film is stalled, the split was reportedly amicable. The source mentioned that Aamir and Lokesh “parted ways on a good note with the intent of collaborating in the future.” It was a case of two creative giants not being able to sync their processes for this particular film.
Aamir reportedly wanted Lokesh to invest himself completely in the pre-production and script-locking phase, as he felt the film had the potential to redefine Indian cinema. However, Lokesh was keen to stick to his own proven method of improvising on set. As their creative visions for the process didn’t align, they decided it was best to put a pin in the project for now.
What’s Next For The Two Superstars?
With the superhero film on the back burner, Aamir Khan is now reportedly on the lookout for a new script and project to dive into. Meanwhile, Lokesh Kanagaraj is expected to move on to his next big venture, which is rumoured to be a massive gangster film possibly starring both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
