Andhra Govt Approves 1 AM Shows

With just a week to go for its release, the buzz for OG, starring actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, has reached a new level. The Andhra Pradesh government has passed a new Government Order (GO) allowing a significant increase in ticket prices for the film, including permission for special early morning shows.

For these special shows, scheduled for 1 am, ticket prices can go as high as a whopping ₹1,000. This move is set to give the film a massive opening at the box office.

Here’s What The New Ticket Prices Look Like

The price hike isn’t just for the special premieres. For the first ten days of the film’s run, from September 25 to October 4, all screenings will have increased ticket rates. The government has also permitted theatres to run up to five shows per day.

For regular shows in single-screen theatres, the price has been increased by ₹125, bringing the new total to ₹272. In multiplexes, the hike is ₹150, making the new ticket price ₹327. This is a considerable increase from the standard rates in the state.

A Special Exception For OG?

This decision is particularly noteworthy as the Andhra Pradesh government had recently denied permission for similar paid midnight premieres for other big-budget films, including the highly anticipated Devara. The approval for OG is being seen as a special exception.

This contrasts with the stance of the neighbouring Telangana government, which recently announced a ban on all “benefit shows” after a tragic stampede during a screening of Pushpa 2. With Andhra Pradesh giving the green light, all eyes are now on Telangana to see if they will also allow a price hike for the film.

Producers Thank The Government, Fans React

The film’s production house, DVV Entertainment, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan for the new order.

However, the reaction from fans has been mixed. While many are excited about the film, the steep ticket prices have not gone down well with some. One user commented, “Is this some kind of planning? How lightly are you taking us…?” Another expressed disappointment with the show count, writing, “Only 5 shows on Day 1? Useless.”
