By Stephen Vilardo, SuperWest Sports
Week 3 in the NFL saw some phenomenal performances from players who played collegiately in the West.
Each week, we highlight the best NFL performances from former SuperWest players.
Here are my choices from last Sunday and Monday.
Top NFL Performances
1. Caleb Williams, QB, Bears/USC
Willams was flawless as the Bears mauled the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.
The former Trojan matched a career high with four passing TDs in the 31-14 win while throwing for 298 yards, connecting on 67.9% of his passes.
2. Puka Nacua, WR, Rams/BYU
Puka Nacua recorded his second double-digit reception week of the season, grabbing 11 passes for 112 yards in the Rams’ loss to Philadelphia.
It was the sixth time in his still young career that he had at least 10 receptions and at least 100 yards in a game.
He is just the fifth player in NFL history with six such games in their first three NFL seasons.
3. Fred Warner, LB, 49ers/BYU
The former Cougar is still making plays in his eighth NFL season.
On Sunday, he led the Niners with 11 tackles in their win over the Cardinals. He also knocked down two passes in the one-point win for San Francisco.
This was his second game in as many weeks with 11 total stops.
4. Justin Herbert, QB, Chargers/Oregon
Herbert squared off against fellow former Oregon signal caller Bo Nix on Sunday.
The seasoned vet got the better of the second-year pro as the Chargers escaped with a three-point victory.
In the win, Herbert threw for 300 yards and a TD while adding six yards on the ground.
5. Carson Schwesinger, LB, Browns/UCLA (R)
The former Bruin had the best game of his rookie campaign to date in the Browns’ week three win over the Packers.
Schwesinger led Cleveland with 10 tackles in the win, adding a sack of Packers QB Jordan Love as well.
6. Tory Horton, WR, Seahawks/Colorado State (R)
Horton made an impact in the Seahawks’ 44-13 win over the Saints as he caught three passes for 32 yards and a TD. But his biggest contribution came on special teams, where he returned a punt 95 yards for a score.
That was the longest punt return for a TD by a rookie since Tyreek Hill had a 95-yarder for KC in the 2016 season, and the longest punt return in Seahawks history.
The former CSU Ram star also enters the NFL record book along with fellow rookie Jaylin Lane, who had a 90-yard punt return TD for Washington.
It marked the first week in NFL history with multiple rookies recording punt return touchdowns of 90 or more yards.
7. Noah Sewell, LB, Bears/Oregon
This year is shaping up to be a breakout season for the former Duck.
For the second time in three games, Sewell established a new career high for tackles.
The third-year man recorded 11 stops against Dallas to lead the Bears in their win.
8. Bobby Wagner, LB, Commanders/Utah State
For the third time in as many weeks this season, the former USU star recorded double-digit tackles.
Wagner made plays all over the field with 11 total stops, along with two sacks and three QB hits as he made things difficult for Geno Smith all afternoon in Washington’s win over Las Vegas.
9. Marcus Mariota, QB, Commanders/Oregon
Mariota stepped in for the injured Jayden Daniels and delivered a big 41-24 win over the Raiders for Washington.
The former Duck threw for 207 yards and a TD while adding 40 yards and another score with his legs.
10. Cam Skattebo, RB, Giants/Arizona State (R)
The rookie from Arizona State found the end zone for the second time in as many weeks in the Giants’ loss to Kansas City on Sunday Night.
Skattebo shined in his first primetime appearance in the NFL with 121 total yards on 16 touches with a 13-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
The former Sun Devil averaged an impressive 6.0 yards per carry in the contest.
11. Josh Allen, QB, Bills/Wyoming
The former Cowboy was efficient in the Bills’ win over the Dolphins on Thursday Night.
Allen completed 22 of 28 passes for 213 yards and three TDs.
He also scampered for 25 yards.
12. Dalton Kincaid, TE, Bills/Utah
Kincaid was on the receiving end of five of Josh Allen’s 22 completions in the win over Miami last Thursday.
The former Ute tallied 66 yards on the receptions and a TD.
The five receptions marked his largest single-game output since Week Six of last season.
13. Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Colts/USC
The former Trojan seems to be building a connection with new QB Daniel Jones.
Pittman caught six passes for 73 yards and a TD in the Colts win over Tennessee.
He is off to a fast start in 2025 with 16 receptions and a pair of TDs as his team has gone 3-0 for the first time since 2009.
Other Notable Performances
- Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Lions/USC – Had 7 receptions for 77 yards and one touchdown.
- Jared Goff, QB, Lions/Cal – Went 20/28 for 202 yards and one touchdown.
- Teddye Buchanan, LB, Ravens/Cal (R) – Recorded eight tackles in the loss to the Lions.
