Fans of the actor Yu Menglong are still reeling after the news of his death first broke last week. While authorities have announced that there was supposedly no foul play involved, evidence in the days since suggests that there may be more to this case than meets the eye.
Reports of Yu’s death began circulating online on September 11 with posts on Chinese social media which announced that the actor had sadly passed after falling to his death from a great height. The 37-year-old was known for his appearances in numerous popular Chinese movies and TV series such as The Legend of the White Snake and All Out of Love.
What happened to Yu Menglong?
Details surrounding the actor’s death are still hazy although a post on Facebook claims that police had ruled out foul play, determining that his death was accidental after the star fell from a building while intoxicated. Yu had been seen at a friend’s party that night and went to bed around 2 AM, locking the door. He was found the next morning having seemingly fallen out of the window.
However, fans have not accepted the narrative that Yu’s death was a mere accident. Speculation over the actor’s death has been spreading online, with hundreds of thousands of netizens demanding justice for Yu. It has even caught the attention of fans outside of China, especially after dark footage of what some claim is the actor being dangled out of a window by unseen assailants found its way to X and TikTok.
Conspiracy theories began spreading that Yu had knowledge of a money-laundering racket or that another actor, Fan Shiqi, had been jealous of Yu.
Some suggested that Yu’s ordeal had possibly lasted multiple days, or even weeks, being tortured by his assailants before his alleged murder. Of course, nothing has been confirmed so far with only hazy footage and audio to suggest that Yu Menglong’s death was anything other than accidental.
Even more disturbing evidence
More evidence of Yu’s supposed ordeal was shared online to platforms such as X according to Visiontimes.com. Apparent audio recordings capturing the moment Yu’s abdomen was cut open to retrieve a USB. One assailant can allegedly be heard saying “Spit it out!” and “Cut open his stomach for me!”
According to one outlet, the USB contained evidence of senior officials in the Chinese Communist Party being involved in money laundering.
While some of the footage appearing online is disturbing, it’s difficult to make heads nor tails of the supposed “evidence.” Maybe the authorities were too quick to rule out foul play, but some of the theories seem rather sensationalist to say the least.
