A popular influencer who was opened on his abusive relationship with his ex-boyfriend received an online support spill this week after he stated guilty in court.
Kayla Malec, who has 16.6 million followers at Tiktok and almost 1.8 YouTube subscribers, first publicly detailed allegations of abuse against Evan Johnson In April, sending a series of emotional and raw videos about the nine -month relationship.
The videos, which sometimes included photos and videos of injuries she said she suffered from Johnson, generated a friendly reaction from many of her followers, who praised her for her vulnerability.
Malec’s story became the last saga to captivate people on -line, when some of his followers began to spread misinformation and condemn another creator who, according to them, seemed to be associated with Johnson.
Johnson was charged with employees of Sumner County, Tennessee, domestic assault on April 7, according to the Sumner County Court records obtained by NBC News. On Wednesday, Malec shared “Justice was served” while posted videos of herself out of court.
“I’m very happy now, I’ll probably start sobbing,” she said in her video, “… but I won. I won!”
Johnson stated guilty of a charge of domestic assault on Wednesday and was also ordered not to have contact with Malec, according to court documents. Johnson was also sentenced not to operate Tiktok, Youtube or Facebook accounts on his behalf. He also declared himself guilty of a violation of parole by a DUI, according to court documents.
A court representative said Johnson is in custody. Representatives of Malec and Johnson did not respond to requests for comments on Friday.
In the preparation for the audience this week, Malec documented her emotions in videos in Tiktok, saying she experienced anxiety and PTE after performing.
“This is the most depressed I’ve ever been to in my life,” she said in a video last month. “… I know it will improve and I know that the healing process takes a long time. And there are days when I feel great and there are days when I wake up … and I don’t want to get out of bed for the rest of the day.”
She said she continued to post to help others who faced similar situations.
“The only thing that is keeping my head up and getting me out of bed is knowing that I’m doing it for a reason and that I’m doing it to help you,” she said.
Malec’s commemorative videos collectively received about 20 million likes, such as colleagues popular influencers – including Haylee Kalil, Jacob Sartorius and Jess Ditorro – commented to congratulating the verdict.
The singer Kesha, who previously brought allegations of abuse against her former Producer Dr. Luke, also commented. (Dr. Luke, who was not accused of a crime, denied all the allegations of Kesha. In 2023, the two reached an agreement in his process of defamation for his claim that he raped her.
“I’m so proud of you,” Kesha wrote in the Malec video. “A victory for one is a victory for all of us.”
