Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is gearing up for his much-anticipated return with Sitaare Zameen Par, which releases this June, but the actor has already signed his next big project — a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke directed by Rajkumar Hirani. This was not an easy decision. From what we understand, Aamir’s creative juices were flowing during the course of the last year, and he was involved in more than 10 projects before landing on Hirani’s historical drama.

During the past year, Aamir had coffee conversations with most of the big directors and producers on half a dozen or more projects in various phases of completion. Here were a few:
- Filmmakers Rajkumar Santoshi’s Char Din Ki Zindagi and Andaz Apna Apna 2
- Anurag Basu’s much-hyped Kishore Kumar Biopic
- The Ujjwal Nikam Biopic with Dinesh Vijan
- The Gulshan Kumar Biopic with Tushar Hiranandani and Bhushan Kumar
- A possible collaboration with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
- A superhero film with Lokesh Kanagaraj in 2027
In this outpouring of ideas, it was the Dadasaheb Phalke project with Hirani that ultimately landed. The narrative about the father of Indian cinema provides the opportunity for Aamir to portray a national hero and villain in a compelling, deep narrative.
PK 2 Back In Talks: Ranbir Kapoor Might Play The Alien
Perhaps one of the most intriguing developments is the revival of PK 2 — the sequel to Aamir’s PK, which grossed around $118 million worldwide in 2014, where Aamir plays an inquisitive alien on Earth. According to a trusted source:
“There is an idea for PK 2 and Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Aamir are all very excited about it. It picks up organically where the first film left off. Ranbir Kapoor, who briefly appeared in the climax of PK, will probably take centerstage on PK 2 alongside Aamir.”
Although initially at the concept stage, it is expected that PK 2 will showcase Hirani’s satirical style with some new trading — a legacy sequel the fans never knew they wanted.
Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic Starts Soon, with PK 2 Following
After Sitaare Zameen Par hits theaters on June 20, 2025, Aamir will begin preparing for the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic. The Dadasaheb Phalke film has an expected start date later in the year. After the biopic is completed, the expectation is that PK 2 will rapidly follow, assuming Ranbir Kapoor is kept busy during this time (Ramayana 2, Dhoom 4, Animal Park).
Aamir is also in late-stage conversations with Lokesh Kanagaraj for a high-concept superhero movie that combines Southern scale and Bollywood emotive storytelling — these developments signal a shift in Khan’s choices now post-Laal Singh Chaddha.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
Aamir Khan’s return is not just cinematic; instead, it’s strategic. His careful selection process indicates a new landscape in content curation, with Khan choosing legacy-defining roles. PK 2 will be a new frontier, and the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic is shaping up to be a defining film.
