Aamir Khan Productions has officially broken its silence to put an end to widespread speculation surrounding Aamir Khan‘s involvement in the upcoming Rajinikanth-starrer, Coolie. In a clear and direct statement, the production house has shut down all rumors suggesting that the actor was personally lobbying for the film ahead of its major box office clash with War 2.
The clarification comes after days of industry chatter that Aamir was leveraging his personal influence to secure better showtimes and deals for the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial.
The Official Statement
In a statement released to the media, the spokesperson for Aamir Khan Productions set the record straight. “Neither Aamir Khan, nor anyone from his team is involved in the distribution of Coolie. Mr Khan has not made any calls to any exhibitor or distributor,” the statement read.
It further clarified the nature of his involvement in the film: “His cameo in the film is purely a gesture of his bond with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth.” The production house also shifted focus to their own recent success, adding, “Everyone at AKP, especially Aamir Khan, is thrilled with the success of Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release and is overjoyed with the response it has received.”
The Rumors That Shook The Industry
The official denial was necessitated by strong rumors that had been circulating for days. Reports had alleged that Aamir Khan had personally called the head of a major multiplex chain to aggressively push for premium show allocation for Coolie in North India. This was seen as a stunning and unexpected power play, as Aamir only has an extended cameo in the film and holds no financial stake in the project. The rumors sent “nervous murmurs” through the exhibition sector, which was caught between a superstar’s influence and its partnership with YRF, the studio behind War 2. With this new statement, that narrative has been officially squashed.
