Aamir Khan Teams Up With PVR-Inox & Anil Thadani For His Next

Aamir Khan’s Bold Release Strategy for Sitaare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan has never been known to play it safe, but when it comes to bold gestures and reinventing cinema, he has rogue tendencies. With Sitaare Zameen Par—the spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par—the actor-producer is changing the game of Bollywood releases again.

Instead of dramatically filling cinemas on Day 1 with oversaturation, Aamir is going with a slow-burn rollout in a highly strategic way to ensure emotional impact and longevity at the box office.

PVR-Inox & Anil Thadani Partner With Aamir

For its domestic theatrical distribution, Sitaare Zameen Par has partnered with PVR-Inox, while veteran international distributor Anil Thadani will handle international territories. But the biggest talking point is really about how the film will be rolled out.

“Aamir isn’t chasing for a business model that is weekend oriented,”
a source involved in the film explained.
“They will start with select showings, and depend on word of mouth. In some cases, increase showings because of positive word-of-mouth.”

The approach has already been likened to Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), which opened on a few screens and then went on to an incredible historic box office run, driven by an army of engaged audiences.

In fact, insiders say that Aamir consulted the Rajshri team to understand how they managed to keep audiences engaged across weeks, not days.

“He wanted to understand what it was about the storytelling that would resonate for the long run—and apply the same playbook, but in a modern context,” said the insider.

A Sustainable, Audience-Centred Approach

In a time when many films burn out in 10 days, Aamir’s approach feels extremely refreshing. The aim is emotional connection, rather than instant dopamine fix.

According to sources, the vision is to allow Sitaare Zameen Par to breathe, to expand with time, and to cultivate an audience organically throughout the second and third weeks.

This is a stark contrast to recent blockbusters like Sikandar, which had packed houses on Day 1 but fizzled out rapidly due to leaks and content fatigue.

Aamir’s ambition is a healthier life cycle for theatrical films.

About The Film

Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by R.S. Prasanna, stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, and features ten debutant actors with Down syndrome.

It is a certified remake of the Spanish blockbuster Champions and a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par (2007).

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Aparna Purohit, Sitaare Zameen Par is also accompanied by a special companion documentary celebrating inclusive storytelling and neurodiverse talent.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

Aamir Khan isn’t just putting out a film—he’s rethinking the box office. With the release plan devised by PVR-Inox, led by Anil Thadani and inspired by Rajshri, Sitaare Zameen Par could holistically change the way emotionally rich films perform in cinemas today.

With June 20 closing in, it’s not just the film that has all eyes on it, but also whether Aamir‘s model of patience and word-of-mouth first will become the gold standard for the future of Bollywood distribution.
