Amid Recent Controversy, Deepika Padukone Joins Superstar Shah Rukh Khan in ‘King’, Says ‘People you make it with, matter more than success’ While Taking A Sly Dig

Deepika Padukone has officially joined Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of King, marking their sixth collaboration together. The actress shared a picture of holding hands on Instagram, tagging Shah Rukh Khan and director Siddharth Anand while writing a heartfelt note that is believed to also carry a sly dig at South producers.

Deepika wrote:

“The very first lesson he taught me almost 18 years ago while filming Om Shanti Om was that the experience of making a movie, and the people you make it with, matter far more than its success.

I couldn’t agree more and have applied that learning to every decision I’ve made since.

And that’s probably why we’re back making our 6th movie together?

Subtle dig at South producers

The tone of Deepika’s post is being widely read as a subtle swipe at certain South Indian producers. Her emphasis on valuing “the people you make it with” over box office success comes in the wake of industry controversy questioning her commitment and professionalism. Without naming anyone directly, Deepika’s words seem to underline the importance of long term bonds she enjoys here in Hindi film industry, especially in light of her enduring association with Shah Rukh Khan.

Recent Controversy Surrounding Deepika Padukone

Recently Deepika Padukone has been embroiled in controversy after exiting two big projects in quick succession. She was dropped from Kalki 2898 AD sequel over “commitment” issues, according to Vyjayanthi Movies of the production house.

According to unconfirmed reports, the conversation between Deepika and the producers involved standard negotiations for the sequel. It’s been suggested that Deepika, one of the country’s biggest superstars, requested a 25 per cent fee increase for the second film. For a blockbuster franchise of this scale, such a hike is often considered a standard expectation for a lead actor whose star power contributes significantly to the film’s success. The reports also mentioned that other lead actors had not requested an increment, but for an actress of Deepika’s stature, negotiating for fair compensation that reflects her market value is a routine part of the business. In addition, her exit from Spirit earlier in the year also attracted similar attention.
