The Japanese anime sensation, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, is continuing its impressive run at the Indian box office. On its eighth day in theatres, the film registered a good hold, collecting ₹2 crore net. This takes the total collection of the anime blockbuster to ₹55.20 crore in India.
This is a strong performance, especially considering it is now facing tough competition from the new Bollywood giant, Jolly LLB 3, which has taken over the market.
A Record-Breaking Run For Anime in India
From the day of its release, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been smashing records. The film opened with a massive ₹12.25 crore, instantly becoming the highest-grossing anime film in India by surpassing the lifetime collections of previous hits like Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Suzume.
The film had a glorious first week at the box office, wrapping up its opening weekend with an excellent ₹38.95 crore. After a standard drop on Monday, it remained steady through the weekdays, closing its first week with a total of ₹53.20 crore.
Facing The Jolly LLB 3 Wave
The film has now entered its second weekend, and while the arrival of the Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi starrer has slowed its pace, it is still managing to draw audiences. A collection of ₹2 crore on its second Friday is a respectable number in the face of such huge competition.
The movie is expected to see a jump in collections over Saturday and Sunday as its dedicated fanbase will likely turn up over the weekend. While it will remain at lower levels, the trend is expected to be steady.
The Future Of Anime At The Indian Box Office
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is already a huge success in India. Even if the film continues on a steady path from here, it is projected to finish its theatrical run with a solid total of around ₹80 crore. This is a fantastic result for an anime film in the Indian market.
More importantly, this success is likely to pave the way for more major Japanese anime franchises to get a proper release in India. The incredible performance of Demon Slayer proves there is a large and growing audience for films from franchises like One Piece, Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
