Brahmastra 2 on Hold as Ayan Mukerji Commits to Dhoom 4
Plans for Ayan Mukerji’s next instalment of his passion project Brahmastra have been derailed somewhat. While fans were anxious to see Brahmastra 2, According to a recent report, Ayan will put the project on hold during this time and move full steam ahead into Dhoom 4, the reboot of Yash Raj Films‘ classic action franchise.
Dhoom 4 Takes Top Priority for Ayan Mukerji
Dhoom 4 now takes top place in Ayan’s list of projects. Ayan Mukerji will go straight into pre-production for Dhoom 4 after he completes the War 2 project, which is set to release in theatres on August 14, 2025.
Sources in the industry have confirmed that Aditya Chopra charged Ayan with devising a whole new narrative and format; he basically had Ayan reinvent the brand to give the franchise a whole new feel.
“Aditya Chopra gave him directorial responsibilities for Dhoom 4, which will have new characters and a new format, essentially rebooting the iconic action franchise. While Ayan had previously been apprehensive in doing back-to-back large-scale action projects, he could not say no to Aditya and Ranbir,” sources said.
“It’s all very ambitious, and a lot of moving parts must come together as expected for them to be carrying out this vision,” the source added.
Brahmastra Sequel Timeline Shifted
The official plan now is to commence shooting Brahmastra 2 in 2027 and film the third part consecutively, in a parallel shoot — much like Nitesh Tiwari‘s two-part Ramayana.
What to Expect from Dhoom 4?
Dhoom 4 marks a new dimension and approach for the franchise, which previously had its iconic villains in John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan.
The next iteration sees Ranbir Kapoor continue with his anti-hero role, and sources indicate that Ranbir will again be in a grey-shade role, continuing the stylish imagery and narrative of anti-heroes back into the franchise.
Dhoom 4 is just in the early pre-production stage of development — lead cops and lead ladies are being cast. Production is expected to begin around April 2026, with a theatrical release in 2027.

With Dhoom 4, YRF appears to have put their chips on a guaranteed franchise with worldwide appeal, and we can expect Ayan’s action storytelling playbook to kick into high gear.
Ranbir Kapoor‘s legacy of Brahmastra and Dhoom will be a tick legacy. One thing’s for sure — 2027 is going to be a firework year at the box office!
