Ben Affleck’s Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner aren’t his only doomed romances

Gwyneth Paltrow is the sort of celebrity who has been famous for so long that whenever she’s doing press or releasing a book, fans end up learning the most innocuous details about other celebrities — details they absolutely have no business knowing.

Page Six reports that Paltrow is scheduling the release of her long-awaited biography, which will chronicle her career-defining 1990s before she “fell off,” bounced right back, and became a Marvel star, making movies like Sliding Doors and the Ben Affleck-assisted Shakespeare in Love. In fact, she will reportedly talk a bit about her relationship with Ben Affleck.

Paltrow has never been one to hold her tongue. She’s previously been forthright about her three-year romance with Ben Affleck, once telling Howard Stern that he was not ready for a relationship when they were together, and recently comparing him to her other ex, Brad Pitt, on the provocative Call Her Daddy podcast.  If you’re lucky enough not to know exactly what she was comparing between the two, consider yourself blessed.

Ben Affleck has had a very strange relationship history with his exes, where none of them have anything particularly negative to say about him, per se. They express empathy for his struggles with alcoholism and gambling, but none have much that’s glowing to say about how he treated them either. Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly included in her book how she and her family always admired how smart and funny Ben Affleck is, but apparently, he also cheated on her.

In the book, Gwyneth will delve into how palpable their physical chemistry was, but even that wasn’t enough for Ben Affleck to set aside his “self-destructive” impulses. Another accusation against Affleck is that he never seemed to enjoy spending time with the Goop founder, appearing happier to host his boys for a gaming night than to have a date night with her.

A lot has changed for Gwyneth Paltrow since those days. Much like Ben Affleck, her businesses are thriving, and she’s settled in as an elder statesperson in Hollywood. She’s divorced from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin but has remained cordial with him and his reportedly former lover, Dakota Johnson. She has settled nicely with her husband, Brad Falchuk. Ben Affleck, on the other hand — well, the great thing about him is that he’s using his intellect well and is thriving business-wise, always managing to churn out great movies every year.

Other than that, he’s sadly still entangled with his age-old impulses. He’s still meddling with his exes’ relationships, still struggling to settle down with people he clearly seems to want to form a long-lasting relationship with. All the same things Gwyneth Paltrow will break down in her book. But it will all, seemingly, be in good fun and with maturity. The former Iron Man star has never been caught on camera saying anything negative about any man she’s been romantically linked with, and Ben Affleck — save for a few playful jabs here and there — will most likely not be the one exception.
