Darren Aronofsky to Helm New Dwayne Johnson Movie
Dwayne Johnson‘s latest film, a thriller called Breakthrough, has found its director in Black Swan filmmaker Darren Aronofsky.
Dwayne Johnson will be showcased in a new forthcoming A24 thriller titled Breakthrough, and the project has now found its director in an Oscar-nominated talent, Darren Aronofsky. In the upcoming film, which is set in Southern California, Johnson will portray a well-experienced self-help guru who takes a “lonely young man” under his wing with what are sure to be fascinating results.
Johnson has a movie coming out titled The Smashing Machine which is also going to be an A24 release. That film co-stars Emily Blunt who played with Johnson in Jungle Cruise back in the summer of 2021. Aronofsky previously directed the Oscar-winning (for Best Actor, Brendan Fraser and Best Makeup and Hairstyling) film, The Whale which won many accolades from moviegoers and movie critics alike.
Aronofsky has another movie which is coming out soon in August. It is a crime picture called Caught Stealing starring Austin Butler (of Elvis fame and who was Fraser’s main competitor for Best Actor at the Oscars for 2022 movies) and Regina King (among others). That picture is due at the end of August while The Smashing Machine featuring Dwayne Johnson will be out October 3rd of this year.
A24 just has a good weekend at the box-office with their Dakota Johnson-starring comedy/drama, The Materialists, and Breakthrough could be another box-office hit for the studio upon its release given Johnson’s draw as a high-profile actor in Hollywood.
While Dwayne Johnson has impressed in fascinating dramatic films like Pain & Gain (where Johnson played against Mark Wahlberg), Johnson is a bit more well-known for his roles in box-office hits like certain Jumanji and The Fast and the Furious movies.
Aronofsky has made many great films in his time from Requiem to a Dream to Black Swan to The Whale. This film-making talent has directed many stars to Oscar nominations such as Mickey Rourke who wowed audiences in Aronofsky’s hit, The Wrestler. Aronofsky has also directed the likes of Fraser and Natalie Portman (Black Swan) who both ended up at the podium accepting Oscars for Aronofsky movies.
While Aronofsky was circled to direct Cujo, a Netflix horror movie remake of a Stephen King book-based film, recent articles about this story on Breakthrough haven’t really hyped up the fact of whether or not Aronofsky has completed Cujo, yet.
Darren Aronofsky and Dwayne Johnson are hopefully going to be a solid cinematic dream team, and self-help guru movies typically prove to be interesting as this new upcoming picture should certainly be given Johnson’s amazing charisma. When accompanied by the strong central role Johnson will play in the new movie, the film should prove to be a big success from A24 from a critical standpoint, maybe even a financial one.
