MANILA, Philippines—Getting a technical foul for resentment to a call may not have be the prettiest sight for coach Chot Reyes but for him, it was necessary.
Before TNT won over Magnolia in its PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals affair on Wednesday at Philsports Arena, Reyes had an unpleasant scene in the second quarter.

After numerous complaints on non-calls, Reyes threw a tantrum and even kicked one of the chairs on TNT’s bench which earned him a technical foul.
Was it something he regretted? Maybe not entirely.
“Sometimes you have to do those things to fire up not only the players but to really let the officials also know how displeased we were with several non-calls,” explained Reyes after their nail-biting 89-88 win over the Hotshots.

“I’ve been around long enough to know not to lose my composure.”
After receiving that technical foul, Reyes became a bit more collected and directed his wards to pull the rug under Magnolia, which led for the majority of the game.
The head tactician’s calmness rubbed off on the squad, which didn’t panic despite entering the fourth period trailing the second-seeded Hotshots.
“I know that I can have outbursts of emotion like that but what I’ve learned over the years is to coach through that and to make sure that my thinking and my thought process is still very clear.”
“I just wanted to really make a point at that moment in the second quarter.”
Reyes and the Tropang 5G shoot for a win on Saturday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium to inch closer to the coveted grand slam.
