SCHEDULE: 2025 PVL on Tour preseason tournament

VIGAN, Ilocos Sur — Creamline turned to Michele Gumabao, Alyssa Valdez, and Jema Galanza to stave off the gritty Akari, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, in the PVL on Tour on Monday at Chavit Coliseum here.

After fighting toe-to-toe in the first two sets, the Cool Smashers waxed hot in the last two to complete a two-game sweep of their Vigan stop, sharing the Pool B lead with the Cignal HD Spikers — their next opponent on July 1 at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Gumabao unleashed 18 points. Valdez had 16 points and 18 excellent receptions, as Galanza displayed an all-around game of 12 points, 18 digs, and 10 excellent receptions.

Kyle Negrito tallied an On Tour high of 40 excellent sets on top of six points. Rookie Sheena Toring had 10 points, while Pangs Panaga added eight as the middle blockers combined for five of the team’s 11 blocks.

“Siyempre happy kami dahil kahit back-to-back yung games namin, kasi first time na mangyari sa amin talaga na magkasunod na araw, siguro marami pa kaming i-improve para magtuloy-tuloy yung magandang laro namin,” said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses a day after sweeping Capital1.

The Cool Smashers failed to stop the Chargers in the second set as Eli Soyud, Grethcel Soltones, and Ced Domingo put on the finishing touches in the frame to equalize the match to one set apiece.

The 10-time PVL champions were quick to regain control in the third as Pau Soriano scored two consecutive points for a 21-14 spread en route to a 2-1 match advantage.

Creamline overcame a first-frame meltdown as its 24-22 lead was erased by Akari’s three consecutive points to steal the set point, 25-24, off Soltones’ off-the-block kill.

Galanza nailed the equalizer, followed by Negrito’s ace and Steph Bustrillo’s costly attack error to draw first blood.

Akari dropped to a 0-2 card in Pool B despite the 18-point effort of Soltones.

Domingo and Soyud combined for seven blocks and scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Kamille Cal had 33 excellent sets.
