Deluded Trump swallows false compliment hook, line and sinker – We Got This Covered

Donald Trump believes almost everything he’s told. Ordinarily, intense gullibility is a rather undearing trait, something that makes the town goof all the more lovable. When it’s the guy with access to the nuclear briefcase… You start to get a little worried.

Seasoned Trump observers have long known that whatever you whisper into Trump, he’ll invariably spit back out in the following hours and days. His staff and advisors practically rely on this to get their message out: for example today Trump was insisting that Chicago is currently “a killing field”. It’s not, but Stephen Miller (a guess, but it sounds like him) told him that earlier and now as far as Trump is concerned, it’s the gospel truth.

Now it seems some European leader at the recent White House summit was so desperate to butter Trump up that they told him they all consider him “the President of Europe”. Flattering Trump is the best way to get him to do something you want, but c’mon, was this really the smartest move?

“They jokingly call me the President of Europe. They call me the President of Europe, which is an honor. I like Europe and I like those people. They’re great leaders. And we’ve never had a case where uh.. seven.. plus, really 28… essentially 35.. 38 countries were represented here the other day. 38 European countries.. uh.. European and other countries were represented.”

Earth to Trump, nobody, jokingly or otherwise, calls you the “President of Europe”. That was someone trying to lovebomb you, and you soaked it up like a giddy schoolgirl.

No confidence

Latest polling across European countries indicates a majority has “no confidence” in Trump’s ability to handle world affairs, EU residents see him as an “enemy” and, at the very best, America is seen as a “necessary partner” rather than an ally.

We can only hope that whichever European leader told him this (my bet is on the UK’s Keir Starmer) felt it was worth the humiliation and that they got what they wanted out of him. Whatever the case, Europeans can at least breathe a sigh of relief that whatever he believes, Trump is not their president and never will be. Americans? Well, we’re still only a quarter of the way into his second term, and let’s face it, things aren’t looking good.
