“Detective Sherdil” is a film that attempts to blend comedy and mystery, but it falls short of its ambitious goals. Directed by Ravi Chhabriya, the movie features Diljit Dosanjh as the titular detective, whose sharp wit and unorthodox methods are both the film’s strength and its downfall.
The story follows Detective Sherdil as he investigates the murder of an Indian-origin telecom tycoon in Budapest. The narrative starts with promise, presenting a complex web of lies and secrets that Sherdil must unravel. However, the film quickly becomes bogged down by its own ambition. The plot, while intriguing, is marred by a slow pace and predictable twists that fail to keep the audience engaged.
Diljit Dosanjh delivers a charismatic performance, bringing his signature charm and wit to the role of Detective Sherdil. His chemistry with Diana Penty, who plays the enigmatic Natasha, is one of the film’s highlights. Boman Irani and Chunky Pandey also deliver solid performances, adding depth to their respective characters. However, the supporting cast often feels underutilized, with many characters lacking the development needed to make them memorable.
One of the film’s major issues is its reliance on clichés and predictable tropes. The mystery at the heart of the story is not as compelling as it could have been, and the film’s attempts at humor often fall flat.
