In a recent address, President Donald Trump declared his intention to pursue individuals affiliated with former President Joe Biden, calling them “evil people.” He specifically stated, “There were some brilliant people,” Trump said, referring to Biden’s allies in his White House. “But they’re evil people, and they’re going to be brought down. They have to be brought down ’cause they really hurt our country.”

The comments were made during a lengthy speech in the Oval Office, where Trump and his associates were talking about the success of his administration’s anti-crime efforts in Washington, D.C. While signing executive orders about getting rid of cash bail, the president repeatedly talked about the murder rate in the city. He claimed that the city had not had a murder for 11 days in a row, a point he has been using to promote his administration’s work to fight crime in D.C.

These efforts have included putting the local police under federal control, sending in an armed National Guard, and increasing the number of federal law enforcement officers. Per NBC News, information that is available to the public from the Metropolitan Police Department shows that the city had actually gone 16 days without a murder earlier in the year. Trump also claimed that the city’s restaurants were going through a “boomtown” period.

Trump is going after Biden next

Trump’s claims are not clearly supported, as workers in a D.C. neighborhood with many immigrants had reported that business was getting worse because of the president’s policies. One of his top staff members, who was there at the signing, also said that residents had started wearing jewelry and carrying purses again because of the anti crime campaign. The staff member argued that the president had effectively freed the city’s people, who had been living in fear of criminals.

On the other hand, crime in D.C. had already been decreasing before the operation started. Also, many people living in the city have said they do not like the increased law enforcement presence, stating that it was frightening to the population. The president has often accused Democrats of using the Justice Department and other law enforcement agencies against him.

He talks about his criminal charges related to the 2020 election and his handling of classified documents, as well as a past conviction for falsifying business records that was later overturned. He has always said he did nothing wrong in these cases. Meanwhile, Democrats point to the Trump administration’s investigations into his political rivals as proof of the very weaponization he accuses them of. The Justice Department is currently looking into two of Trump’s political opponents, a Democratic Senator and the New York Attorney General, over claims of mortgage fraud.

The Senator was the lead House manager in Trump’s first impeachment trial, and the Attorney General was in charge of a civil fraud case against the president. Both say they have done nothing wrong. The Justice Department is also said to be in the early stages of a separate investigation into how the New York Attorney General handled her civil fraud case against the president.
