Even his base wants answers.

President Donald Trump is struggling to move past the renewed attention on his past connection with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. The issue has become a major talking point online and in the media. Trump has reacted strongly to reports and questions about the case, especially after a recent Wall Street Journal article added new fuel to the fire.

According to CNN, Trump’s efforts to change the subject have not worked as planned. Over the weekend, he posted on Truth Social and tried to attack the media and shift attention to other topics. He also brought up unrelated issues, such as calling on the NFL’s Washington Commanders to go back to their old name and questioning the Obama administration. Still, the Epstein matter continued to grow. In one of his posts, Trump said that “nothing will be good enough” to stop what he believes are false claims spread by people he calls leftists and troublemakers.

The president’s statement is a sign that he knows the situation may not calm down soon. It also shows how serious this issue has become, even among his own supporters. Usually, Trump’s political battles are with Democrats or the media. But this time, many of the people asking for more information are from his own MAGA movement, with some MAGA supporters saying the files must be released even if it ends Trump.

Trump tries to change the subject, but the issue still grows

Trump has tried several ways to distract the public. On Sunday, he even shared a video that showed former President Barack Obama being arrested. The video, which looked like it was made using AI, was meant to support a conspiracy theory pushed by Trump’s campaign. He also talked about renaming sports teams, such as the Cleveland Guardians and Washington Commanders, to gain attention on culture war topics.

At the same time, his critics and political opponents have raised new questions. Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, said Trump was president when Epstein was charged and jailed. She added that the Trump administration should have been more open about what it knows.

Inside the MAGA movement, there is confusion. Some followers believe there is a hidden list of powerful people connected to Epstein. Earlier this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi hinted she had such a list. However, the Justice Department and FBI later said there is no proof of a client list or blackmail, after Trump performed a dramatic U-turn on his Epstein promises. They also said again that Epstein died by suicide.

The Wall Street Journal article mentioned a letter supposedly sent by Trump to Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003. The letter included a drawing of a naked woman. Trump and his lawyers say the letter is fake and have filed a $20 billion lawsuit against the paper.

For now, it is unclear how much this issue will hurt Trump politically. A recent CBS News poll showed that most of his supporters are not very concerned about the Epstein matter. Still, many Republicans in Congress are finding it hard to answer questions about the case, which could mean more problems ahead.
