Fox News says ‘just kill’ homeless people with ‘involuntary lethal injection’

This last week it’s really felt as if America has sunken to a point of no return. The slow descent into straight up dystopia has allowed for a spike in hateful and inhumane rhetoric to be normalized and nowhere is this more apparent than Brian Kilmeade’s comments on Fox News over the weekend.

Speaking on Sunday the host suggested that the government “just kill” homeless people who refuse any form of help, his preferred method of doing so? “Involuntary lethal injection.”

The moment came during a heated discussion with a guest in which they criticized the “billions of dollars” given to “mental health and the homeless population” despite the fact that the guest claims “a lot of them don’t want to get the help that is necessary.” 

They concluded by giving an ultimatum: “You can’t give them a choice, either you take the resources that we’re going to give you, or, you decide that you’re going to be locked up in jail.” It’s at this point the Fox News host chimes in with his horrific idea of killing the homeless. 

The conversation has rightly spurred outcry online as people were both shocked and appalled by Kilmeade’s callous and cruel comment. 

Are we back in 1940’s Nazi Germany?

On X people had plenty to say, one pointed out the hypocrisy in the idea, writing, “Brian Kilmeade: Pro-life but also, let’s kill homeless people.” Another suggested Kilmeade and others who agreed with him “should look into their ‘Christian’ mirrors and ask what would Jesus do?” A third simply wrote, “I’m disgusted by this.”

Disgusted is definitely the right response to such a statement. What Kilmeade is suggesting really isn’t too far off what was done by the Nazis. In 1940’s Germany, carbon monoxide was used to kill the mentally ill. Sadly, this was just the start and we all know how much more cruel the Nazi regime would ultimately become ultimately culminating in a mass genocide that should never be forgotten.

So I ask, how much further does the U.S. have to go before we can start calling this what it is? Some may scoff at the idea of comparing modern day America to the Nazi regime but as long as we continue to ignore or downplay these sorts of comments the more it becomes normalized. It should go without saying but exterminating the homeless should not be normal in any society, if we don’t say “enough is enough” now then when do we say it?

Fox News should let Brian Kilmeade go

Following his comments there were calls for Kilmeade to be fired. That’s not much to ask for, after all, Matthew Dowd was fired by MSNBC after he suggested that the right-wing figure’s rhetoric was what led to his assassination.

While he has since apologized it doesn’t change the fact that he still holds that view. Regardless, it seems like Kilmeade will keep his role despite him literally calling for the execution of innocent people whose only crime is being homeless.
