Israeli fire kills seven near Gaza aid centre, Palestinians say

The Israeli military killed seven people near a humanitarian aid distribution centre in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to sources in the Hamas-run health authority.

The victims had reportedly been waiting for aid near a site operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) in the central part of the strip.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli soldiers opened fire on those gathered to receive aid.

The Israeli military said that soldiers had fired warning shots in the area overnight to keep suspects who had approached them at a distance. However, the warning shots were not fired inside the distribution centre, it said. The military said it currently has no information about injuries and the incident is being investigated.

WAFA, citing medical sources, said at least 20 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since Tuesday morning. The Israeli military confirmed it was continuing operations against terrorist organizations in Gaza.

On Monday, Israeli airstrikes targeted more than 140 locations across the strip.

The targets included terrorists, military sites, anti-tank missile launchers and weapons depots, the Israeli military said.

The claims from both sides could not be independently verified.

Palestinian media put his age at 16, but according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, he was 15 years old.

The Israeli army said that stones had been thrown at soldiers during an operation in the Ramallah area. They responded by firing warning shots into the air. The incident is being investigated.

Citing security sources, WAFA also reported that Israeli soldiers had shot dead a Palestinian in the south of the West Bank near a barrier between Israel and the Palestinian territory. According to the Ministry of Health, the man killed was 24 years old.

There were initially no further details on this incident either.
The Israeli army said it was investigating the report.

Israel says it intercepted missile from Yemen

Meanwhile military sources said on Tuesday that a missile fired from Yemen at Israel was intercepted.

The military reported that there had previously been rocket alerts in several areas in Israel. Alarms were also triggered in the greater Tel Aviv area and in Jerusalem.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz then threatened that Yemen would suffer the same fate as Iran. “After we hit the snakehead in Tehran, we will also hit the Houthis in Yemen,” said Katz, according to his office. “Whoever raises their hand against Israel – their hand will be cut off.”

Shortly before, extremist Palestinians from the Gaza Strip had again fired two rockets at Israeli territory. The projectiles were intercepted by the missile defence system, the military said in a statement.

Since the beginning of the Gaza war in October 2023, members of the Houthi militia in Yemen have regularly attacked Israel with missiles and drones as an expression of their solidarity with the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement.

The Israeli Air Force has frequently responded with airstrikes on militia targets in Yemen. Both the Houthi militia and Hamas in the Gaza Strip are allies of Iran.
