MONTALBAN, Rizal — Chery Tiggo coach Norman Miguel lauded Jyne Soreño and the rookies after shining in their pro debut to jumpstart their PVL on Tour campaign on a high note.
After drafting four players from the 2025 Rookie class, Soreño shone in her first game outside La Salle with 15 points to help Chery Tiggo overcome Capital1, 20-25, 25-23, 25-12, 28-26, on Saturday at Ynares Center Montalban.

Soreño, the No. 8 pick, delivered 15 points on a 14-of-33 attacking clip in their first On Tour assignment in Pool B.
Besides the former La Salle spiker, third-round pick Ren Peñafiel chipped in 11 points and five excellent receptions. Second-rounder Erika Deloria from Enderun scored all of her four points in the fourth set, as the final drafted player in the 2025 class, Reyann Cañete added two points.
“All the players we picked in the draft, it’s not just their experience from college that stands out, but also their attitude during training, how they adjust, and how they adapt,” said Miguel in Filipino.
“They’re used to a different system from their college years, but now that they’re in the pros, it’s a new system again. It’s been good so far, and I’m happy because the adjustments have been smooth, and they’ve been open and accepting throughout.”

Soreño admitted she felt jitters in her first game, but the new environment and culture still helped her debut in style.
“Since it was my first game today with my older teammates, I felt really happy and grateful. It wasn’t just me working out there, but also my ates who were helping out. You could really feel the connection and the communication we had with each other,” said the rookie opposite hitter.
Soreño won’t be content with her impressive debut as she seeks continuous growth with the Crossovers.
“I know there are still some things missing in my game, and there’s a lot I need to correct, which I’ll work on when I get home,” she said.
