MANILA, Philippines—Juan Gomez de Liaño didn’t make too many promises when he was selected by Converge in the 2025 PBA Rookie Draft.
He only made one.

After being plucked second overall by the FiberXers in the Season 50 Draft, Gomez de Liaño only has one objective in mind: Make sure to repay Converge’s trust.
“I can’t ask for more. I’m blessed to be chosen by Converge. I know the team owner, coaching staff and all the bosses,” said Gomez de Liaño on Sunday at Mall of Asia Music Hall.
“I won’t let them regret that pick. I’ll do my best.”
After Terrafirma made Geo Chiu the top selection, Converge barely wasted any time in picking the University of the Philippines product.
In fact, just days before the draft, the FiberXers made sure to put themselves in prime position to land Gomez de Liaño after giving up incoming third-year forward Bryan Santos and the rights to the eighth pick to move up the draft order.

The Fuel Masters went on to select former NCAA MVP Will Gozum.
Converge is high on Gomez de Liaño, who played in three overseas leagues following his UAAP stint with the Fighting Maroons.
The shifty point guard also can’t wait to share the floor with his older brother, Javi, who returned to the PBA after a short stint in South Korea.
“It’ll be exciting. I can’t wait for that matchup.”

Javi was recently traded by Terrafirma to Magnolia, which signed him to a three-year contract.
