He’d rather die than be medicated.

In a new, tense scene from Kanye West’s documentary, In Whose Name?, the musician is seen screaming at his then-mother-in-law, Kris Jenner. This wild confrontation is just one of many moments that the documentary, which was filmed between 2019 and 2025, promises to deliver.

During the conversation, Kanye tells Jenner he would “rather be dead” than take medication, before screaming at her that he felt “demasculated” and “like a piece of s***” while on it. He went on to say that his family was able to “get away with it” only because he was medicated. This is a pretty strong claim and one that Kris Jenner, at least initially, didn’t seem to want to engage with.

The conversation reportedly turns into a shouting match when West brings up his 2016 hospitalization, claiming that “no one from the family has taken any responsibility” for it, and that at least half of the people online blame them. When Jenner replied that “it doesn’t matter” what people on the internet say, West reportedly started screaming “It does matter!” repeatedly, yelling over her as she tried to finish her sentence.

Kanye West exploded on his mother-in-law

Jenner’s boyfriend, Corey Gamble, can be heard in the background trying to de-escalate the situation, but West continues to yell at her. Jenner finally clarifies that “it matters to us and you,” and that “it doesn’t matter what the internet says.” She said, “It matters what we think, Ye.”

As Jenner spoke, West reportedly stormed past her, grabbing a gray sweatshirt and a red “Make America Great Again” hat before rushing back into the room. He then asked Jenner, “So what do you think? Did you have an effect on my mental health?”

Whew! During the premiere of Kanye West’s ‘In Whose Name?’ he was seen having a few heated discussions with both Kris Jenner and comedian Michael Che from ‘Saturday Night Live’. During his exchange with Kris, he discussed his stance on medication and the effects on his mental health. In his exchange with Che, Kanye shared his issues with ‘SNL’ following his 2018 performance on the show. (🎥: @inwhosename TT/ Kanyewestlover911) #fyp (📸:@gettyimages) ✍🏾:#TSRStaffJR

At this point, Jenner had reportedly broken down in tears and agreed with him. “Yes. Yes. Yes. I’m saying yes. And I love you. I love you. I don’t want you to be not perfect. I love you,” she says. She continues to tell him that she loves him and that she wants her daughter, Kim Kardashian, to “love you the way you want her to love you.”

Kanye West was married to Kim Kardashian from 2014 to 2022, when he was teamed up with Trump, and they have four children together: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. During their marriage, West was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but he later clarified in the documentary that it was “really a case of autism.” To be fair, this is a pretty big claim, and it’s no wonder people are talking about it.

It looks like Kim Kardashian is also featured in the documentary, which has to be a little uncomfortable for her. In a previous trailer for the project, Kim can be heard telling West, “Your personality was not like this a few years ago.” In another clip, he yells at her, “It ain’t no but!” after she tries to interrupt him. The documentary was reportedly filmed from 2019 to 2025, so it should be interesting to see what other moments are included.
