The jockey that set up sovereignty to victory at Kentucky Derby last week was fined over $ 60,000 for reaching the horse with its riding harvest often during the race, according to the Horseracing’s Integrity and Security Authority.
Junior Alvarado was found to reach the horse with his riding harvest “more than the allowed value” during last week’s race, violating the rules of the authority, reported in a statement on Saturday.
A penalty was imposed against Alvarado on Friday for committing class 3 violation and he was hit with a 10% fine of his $ 310,000 earnings, according to the statement. The fine was doubled “according to a growing penalty structure for repeated crop violations in the previous 180 days”, resulting in a fine of $ 62,000, according to HISH.
It was found that Alvarado reached sovereignty eight times during the Kentucky Derby, which was his second offense in 180 days, according to a decision by Hisa. The Hisa Protocol allows jockeys to reach horses at most six times during a race.
Jockey was also suspended for two days of running in Kentucky, May 29 and 30, as a result of the violation.
According to His, skipping harvest penalties can be appealed through the audience before the internal adjudication panel. Alvarado did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Alvarado now has 30 days to pay the fine.
Jockey and sovereignty won the 151st Kentucky Derby race last Saturday at Churchill Downs.
After the race, Alvarado, who grew up in Venezuela, said that beating Derby was his dream since he was a child.
The jockey suffered a shoulder injury and a fall ahead of the race, but won despite the odds.
