Kevin Feige wants to ‘reset’ the MCU and recast Tony Stark and the X-Men but fans vow not to watch – We Got This Covered

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been struggling in the last few years. Since introducing the concept of the multiverse things just haven’t felt the same. However, Kevin Feige recently revealed the studio’s plans to turn things around and put the MCU back on track. There’s just one problem: fans don’t like his plan.

During a conversation held with press the Marvel head revealed that the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set to release in 2027, would serve to reset the MCU. The future of Marvel post Secret Wars is uncertain but according to an article from Variety, the film will “round out the stories we’ve been telling post-‘Endgame,’” Feige promised what sounded like a clean slate saying, “‘Endgame,’ literally, was about endings. ‘Secret Wars’ is about beginnings.”

What does this mean for the future of the MCU?

First of all this new approach will see an end to the multiverse storyline which will no doubt come as a relief to many fans. While the multiversal elements were pretty cool initially, the novelty of old actors and characters returning to their iconic roles in the MCU wore off pretty quickly. For many, the multiverse started feeling like a gimmick as early as the second Doctor Strange movie.

Anyways, now that Feige has confirmed that the future MCU will take place in a singular timeline that means characters like the X-Men will have to be completely recast.

“Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines… ‘X-Men’ is where that will happen next.”

He also alluded to the possibility that Marvel would eventually re-cast much more iconic roles such as Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. While it’s hard to imagine anyone else embodying those roles as well as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans did, Feige pointed to other major franchises such as James Bond and the recent Superman  which have successfully recast iconic roles.

While Kevin Feige may be feeling positive about the direction Marvel is headed, many fans were not feeling the same level of optimism. Some disagreed with Feige’s plan to recast certain characters with one person writing if the rumors were true it would be a “massive no” from them.

Another shared their disappointment over the fact that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) only got one film as Captain America and it wasn’t even a very good one.

Of course, we don’t know the full extent of this supposed reset yet. It’s doubtful all the characters of the MCU will be recast after Avengers: Secret Wars. One individual pointed out that the reset is the “whole point” of that storyline.
