Kiara Advani’s career arc in recent years reads like a cinematic roller coaster. In June 2023, she earned acclaim and even a Filmfare nomination for her sensitive and soulful performance in Satyaprem Ki Katha, a romantic drama that emerged as a below average commercial success rather than a runaway hit. The film ultimately collected around ₹77.55 crore at the box office, settling into a “below average” verdict rather than blockbuster status that a solo-driven romantic drama usually demands.
Fast forward to early 2025, and Game Changer, her trilingual venture with Ram Charan, underwhelmed on all fronts. Critically labeled forgettable and far from the anticipated breakthrough, the Hindi version managed only ₹24–₹26 crore. The project, touted as a major milestone, instead turned into a box office disappointment.
Now War 2 debuts with enormous fanfare and pressure. As a high-stakes spy thriller directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film stars Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR (in his Hindi debut), and Kiara Advani, and is one of the most expensive Indian films ever, with a reported budget of ₹400 crore.
War 2: A High-Budget Misfire Despite Spy Universe Hype
War 2 was conceived as another franchise spectacle, Yash Raj Films’ highest-budget spy thriller at approximately ₹400 to 450 crore. The film reintroduced the Spy Universe with Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani. It premiered on August 14, 2025, during the lucrative Independence Day weekend. Despite massive buzz, advance bookings were lackluster compared to earlier entries in the Spyverse like Pathaan or Tiger 3.
Globally, the day-one total was around ₹52 crore, with the Hindi version contributing ₹29 crore and the Telugu ₹23 crore. This is again disappointing, as the lowest opener in the franchise’s Hindi segment. Even with a cumulative net of ₹142 crore in India and ₹215 crore worldwide by day three, the pace has been inadequate to offset the massive budget.

With flat advance booking, rapid weekend drop, and tepid word-of-mouth, War 2 looks likely to end its theatrical run in the underwhelming zone despite high visibility.
For Kiara Advani, War 2 offered visibility, but not vindication. It continues her troubling trend of high-profile misfires rather than charting a comeback.
Kiara Advani’s Streak of Flops Continues
Kiara’s trajectory from Satyaprem Ki Katha’s below average success to Game Changer’s flop, left her standing at a critical crossroads. War 2 presented the possibility of restoring her box office credibility through sheer scale and visibility.
While she has maintained her presence in big-ticket projects, box office verdicts have not favored her in the last three releases. With industry eyes on her next choices, the key question is whether she can break this streak and secure a role that brings her box office success.
