Amanda Seyfried Would Certainly Do Another Mamma Mia!
Despite confessing she’s not a big fan of sequels, Amanda Seyfried would be “in” for a third Mamma Mia!
It has been reported that Amanda Seyfried seems to think that sequels are films that are usually just quick cash grabs, but she’d surely do another Mamma Mia! movie in a “heartbeat.” Producer Judy Craymer has already confirmed that the third movie in the musical comedy franchise, Mamma Mia!, is in development. There is a story line in place and many people expect that it could reveal who Seyfried’s character, Sophie’s true father was. There are the suspects: The characters Sam, Bill and Harry, played by Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Colin Firth, respectively.
While Seyfried stated that it’s not “scary” or “brave” to make a sequel, she is drawn to the idea of the third film in the musical comedy franchise that soared at the box-office in 2008 and 2018 when the first two movies in the series were released. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again earned $120 million domestically in 2018 while scooping up another $274 million internationally. Those numbers paled in comparison to the original 2008 movie, but were not too shabby in the grand scheme of things. If it’s a really good film, the third picture stands to fall somewhere in-between the grosses of the pair of previous movies.
Sabrina Carpenter is supposedly going to be in the new Mamma Mia! as well. It is yet uncertain as to whether or not Meryl Streep, whose character died in the movies’ story lines, will return for scenes in the third picture. Seyfriend thinks Carpenter could play her character’s daughter in the new installment if it finally gets off the ground.
Cher, who co-starred in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, could also reprise her role if the situation would call for it. Cher does movies sporadically, but when she does make them, they are usually hugely entertaining such as the case was with Burlesque from 2010. However, information is very limited as to what, exactly, is in the contents of the third Mamma Mia! screenplay that has been written.
Other sources have reported that Seyfried is also interested in a potential Jennifer’s Body follow-up movie as well, so her displeasure with sequels only goes so far. She may not love them, but they play a big part in Hollywood and, for audiences who fondly remember the original Mamma Mia!, a third one in the film series could be just what this country needs right now to liven things up and put a smile on people’s faces.
