She made Meghan’s big day extra special, but lost 16 years of marriage.
Celebrity stylist Jessica Mulroney’s falling out with Meghan Markle apparently remains her one big regret, even as the former goes through the end of a 16-year marriage.
Jessica made her name as a celebrity stylist in the 2010s, styling red carpet looks at the Oscars, TV shows like Suits, and even the now-split former Canadian first couple Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Justin Trudeau. Her styling work on Suits helped her develop a relationship with Meghan Markle that seemingly would last a lifetime. And as happenstance might have it, she eventually went on to be one of the main stylists at Meghan’s royal wedding.
While it’s inaccurate to say Jessica’s entire career changed overnight because of the wedding, there was a significant uptick in interest in her work after she styled Meghan for the event. Jessica started appearing on breakfast shows in her home country of Canada. She was made a bridal consultant for major brands. Everything was looking up. Everyone’s eyes were on her. But now, sources have revealed to Page Six that in retrospect, Jessica reportedly wishes she had never been a part of Meghan and Harry’s wedding. The celebrity stylist believes that were it not for the fame that the wedding brought her, she wouldn’t have had the social media exposure that caused her to lose both her friend, Meghan, and, later on, her husband.
It goes without saying that, despite the criticism she has received for her stances, Meghan values racial equality and is willing to sever ties with anyone whose values don’t align with that core principle. So much so that she was willing to move continents and live with friends rather than stay around family and press that didn’t share this one value.
Jessica learned this the hard way. Her run-in with racial insensitivity was not directly tied to Meghan, but it caused such a firestorm that it was impossible to ignore. In the era of the Black Lives Matter movement — where the conversation evolved past just police violence and into the realm of giving Black people opportunities they were previously denied due to their skin color — a Canadian influencer, Sasha Exeter, made an Instagram post encouraging her followers to support Black-owned brands.
Jessica took that as a personal slight and bullied Exeter behind the scenes. When she was called out for it, she apologized — but by then, it was far too late. Jessica lost multiple opportunities, but most significantly, she lost her friend Meghan, who had been close to her for years. It was around that time that her husband, Ben Mulroney, reportedly quit his job to support her through the professional fallout.
Even as the controversy began dying down and people moved on, it was noticeable that Meghan had taken a step back from their relationship. Yet still, Jessica insisted the two were like family. But
But lately, Jessica has reportedly been posting cryptic messages about losing friends. Sources report her being sad about her divorce, the loss of friendships, and her professional life not being what it used to be. As per the Daily Mail source, she considers the time she spent as the duchess’ friend a “dark cloud” that “later caused tensions … in her marriage.”
Jessica is reportedly trying sobriety and therapy and seemingly has clarity. She is now focusing on co-parenting her three kids with Ben.
