New Florida commit Kekua Aumua ‘loved everything’ about latest visit

It wasn’t long in between taking a Florida official visit and a verbal commitment to the Gators for Kekua Aumua.

The Hawaii native who preps at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy had been a frequent visitor in The Swamp, but more of his family was able to take the trip during his official visit over the weekend.

Clearly the entire group was sold, as the tight end talent went public with the UF pledge on Monday night.

“UF has always treated me and my family with love and hospitality,” Aumua told Rivals. “But this trip blew us out of the ball park. We loved everything about this trip and I’m glad I got to get my family up there.

“The coaches are the same from the beginning…telling me that I am a tight end that they see everywhere on the field. Being able to play every down in the game.”

The longtime courtship resulted in Aumua becoming the latest in a run of commitments for Billy Napier and company, marking the fifth in the month of June to date.

The newest Gator envisions making plays in Gainesville soon after making it to campus for good.

“They see me coming in as a freshman and immediately making an impact,” Aumua said. “And I believe them.”

The rising-senior picked the program over North Carolina, Cal, BYU and Washington. Official visits were initially planned to each program, but they are no longer expected to be taken this month.

Aumua has two-way experience dating back to his time at Kahuku (Hawaii) High School, working as a potential defensive lineman. He also made waves as a baseball player, known for his power at the plate.
