The Philippines will host junior gymnasts from across the globe for the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships, set for November 20 to 24 at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City.
Organized by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines and sanctioned by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the Asian Gymnastics Union, the meet will feature men’s artistic gymnasts aged 16 to 18 and women’s artistic gymnasts aged 14 to 16.

Close to 1,000 athletes from 79 countries have already registered more than two months before the championships, according to GAP president Cynthia Carrion.
Carrion said the event will be a “breeding ground” for future stars, citing the sport’s appeal and referencing Olympic champions such as Simone Biles and Carlos Yulo, who won two golds for the Philippines in Paris last year.
“The Artistic Gymnastics World Junior World Championships will be a showcase of young talent never seen anywhere before, a breeding ground where these outstanding athletes can shine, excel and display their skills and prowess,” Carrion said at the tournament launch on Thursday at Newport World Resorts Mall.
Among those present during the launch were PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio, FIG MAG Technical Committee President Andrew Tombs, WAG Technical Committee President Donatella Sacchi, MAG Senior Events Manager Stepane Detraz and WAG Senior Events Manager Celine Cachemaille.
FIG officials arrived on Wednesday to inspect the host’s preparations and the Manila Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom, which also served as the venue for the 2015 Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournament and will be used for the competition.
The turnout has already exceeded the 283 athletes from 64 nations who took part in the second edition in Antalya, Turkey, two years ago. Officials expect more entries before the competition begins.
Carrion also unveiled the event’s slogan, “Leap High, Flip Strong!” and said participants can expect a safe and festive atmosphere along with Filipino hospitality.
